Blind Citizens NZ is re-registered under the Incorporated Societies Act 2022​​​​ 

In our December issue, we provided an update on the work that has been done to ensure Blind Citizens NZ meets the requirements of the Incorporated Societies Act 2022 (the Act). Our approach has been steady during the past two years and has involved:

▪ obtaining legal advice for amendments to the Constitution registered in 2019;
▪ engaging with members about proposed amendments to our Constitution and ensuring there is support for them;
▪ holding a Special Meeting of Members in December 2025 to formalise the adoption of a new Constitution;
▪ applying to the Company’s Office to reregister under the Incorporated Societies Act 2022.

We are now at the end of our re-registration journey – Blind Citizens NZ’s application for re-registration, including our new Constitution, has been accepted. This is important as there are consequences for societies that do nothing.

The outcome for Blind Citizens NZ is positive, and much has been achieved during the past two-plus years. A big thank you to our Branches, Networks, and members for your respective contributions and commitment to ensuring Blind Citizens NZ meets the requirements set out in the Act.
